Custom Lights

For Berlin's Humboldt University, light objects of large volume were developed and built by Konzeptlicht, following drafts by Rüthenick's architecture office. Located in the main building's west wing, the atrium with its marble floor and a large glass roof required a special focus on acoustics. The custom lights consist of two elements, each 80 centimetres high and semi-circle shaped. Put together they form a circle with a diameter of about 4 meters. In order to make the lights acousticly active, surfaces are made of tense micro-perforated membrane so sound is refracted and led into the object. This is supported by insulating material that alternates with vertical fluorescent tubes inside the light object.
